Cymbalta is used to treat major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorder.
Cymbalta is also approved for treating a chronic pain disorder called
fibromyalgia, as well as diabetic neuropathy and pain from
osteoarthritis and chronic lower back pain.
How to take:
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Cymbalta should be swallowed
whole and should not be chewed or crushed. Take it with a full glass of
water, with or without food.
Do not use Cymbalta if you are using one of these medicines: pimozide
(Orap), isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), phenelzine
(Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), or selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam). Taking
one of this medicines together with Zoloft may lead to fatal reactions
and serious adverse effects.
Inform your doctor if you have
liver or kidney disease, seizures or epilepsy, bipolar disorder (manic
depression) or a history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts.
The main side effects, reported by most of the patients include nausea, drowsyness, insomnia, and dizziness.
Other adverse events are dry mouth, headache, decreased sex drive and temporary impotence.
If you experience one of these symptoms, you should seek professional
aid immediately: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks,
trouble sleeping or if you have thoughts about suicide or hurting
yourself (especially if you are under 24 years of age).
